El’Lisia Sallis- 2012 Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay Youth of the Year

El’Lisia honored as the 2012 Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Bay

Undeterred by devastating circumstances that would have caused many others to quit, El’Lisia’s past struggles have empowered her to advocate on behalf of others facing similar crises. From fundraising for local homeless shelters and food pantries to speaking out against bullying, El’Lisia’s service to her community, academic excellence and lead by example nature  resulted in her selection as State Youth of the Year Competition nominee.  She traveled to Madison where she moved judges and audience members to tears with her inspirational story of struggle and triumph. As she received a standing ovation for her powerful speech and perseverance, she credited the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay for being a key component of her success.

Joining the Boys & Girls Club in 2004, El’Lisia actively participates in essential teen leadership programs Keystone Club and Teen Advisory Council.  Starting as Junior Staff through the Teens 2 Work program, she was a part time Front Desk Assistant at the Nagel Clubhouse her Senior year of High School!  El’Lisia is attending UW-Parkside with plans of pursuing a postsecondary education in African American Studies.

Youth of the Year competition celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments. These deserving young people are recognized for service to their Club and community, academic performance and contributions to their family. Youth of the Year encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities. Youth of the Year nominees are real-life testimonials that demonstrate great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs.
