Health & Life Skills

From growing gardens with delicious fresh fruit and vegetables to offering healthy snacks and lunches, the Club encourage active lifestyles and nutritious eating among its members. After all, healthy kids become healthy, productive adults.

The Club also promotes good choices and avoiding negative behaviors. Avoiding alcohol and drugs, finding non-violent solutions to disputes and maintaining positive relations with others are vital skills members learn at the Clubs.

SMART Girls

SMART Girls is a health and fitness, prevention, education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls ages 8-12 and 13-17. Through dynamic sessions, highly participatory activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls explore their own and societal attitudes and values as they build skills for eating right, staying fit, getting proper health care and developing positive relationships with peers and adults.

Enviro-Team

Enviro-Team launched in the spring of 2008 with the start up of a Club-wide recycling initiative. Since launching this successful recycling program, Enviro-Team members have taken on several other service initiatives and educational projects. This included an Arbor Day tree planting event, summer gardening and nutrition education programs, a geocaching club, ongoing park and highway clean ups, a recycled bird feeder project, educational tours and field trips, a CFL light bulb exchange event, and much more.

Enviro-Team is guided by three program objectives: 1) educate Club members about the importance of environmental stewardship, recycling, and socially responsible/sustainable lifestyles, 2) engage Club members in service-learning projects to benefit their community, and 3) influence others in the Club and community to adopt environmentally sustainable practices.

Triple Play

Triple Play is a dynamic wellness program currently offered that demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships adds up to a healthy lifestyle.
